“Fake it ‘til you make it” or “solulu is the delulu” are phrases that, I think, we have ALL heard before, and… I think that they’re right! Faking it ‘til you make it is a tried and true method that has worked for me MANY times!
If you are second guessing your faking it ‘til you make it methods, let me tell you why you’re in the right here!
Your mind is very powerful
Have you ever been daydreaming about something and you can feel yourself become immersed in your created world? That’s because your mind is SUPER powerful. There is a Muhammad Ali quote that I like to mention:
If my mind can conceive it and my heart can believe it – then I can achieve it.”
Visualizing your desires can make that desire feel more normal than what it originally seems. This is a simple example for me. There was a semester where I wanted to get straight A’s. All of my classes had excellent teachers and they made their classes much easier… except one. This class had a HORRIBLE teacher that put the least amount of effort in the class.
Their class added an EXTRA amount of unnecessary stress in my life. They would add questions that were mentioned in the textbook once and expect for you to have the whole textbook memorized. There would even be times where they would promise extra credit or a curve but would then not remember what they promised.
I would ask myself after every one of their classes “how the heck am I going to get an A in this class?” Heck, I would hear other classmates question how they were even going to pass the class. But, I would visualize myself looking at my computer and seeing my A.
I would visualize this until it felt familiar. I wanted the concept of me achieving this A as a possible task, because it was. I felt as if I could put whatever I put my mind to, and I convinced myself that by visualizing.
And guess what? I got the A! I felt so proud of myself for achieving my goal.
To me, the mind can be your prison or your freedom. And if you do not understand what I am saying, let me expand on this. You can make yourself believe that you are capable of doing what others think is impossible. You can also convince yourself that you are incapable of doing what is possible, like walking.
You are the one who can put limits on yourself, so do your best to allow yourself to be limitless NOT limited.
Continue your steps in that path
So, with my example of making my A, did I just visualize making the A and then sit and do nothing? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I put in effort towards getting that A. I would still study and do my best, knowing that what I was doing was enough. I was doing my part and the Universe would do the rest.
The same goes with your dreams and desires. So, if you want that dream, you are gonna have to put SOME effort in. That effort can be just letting go of the how and allowing the manifestation to just unfold. The effort could also be to put yourself out there and not to allow other people’s opinions deter you.
People’s limits are not yours
There are people out there that like to put their limits onto you. It could be because they can’t see themselves doing it, so they place that limit on you. They limited their dreams, their passion, their happiness, so it seems fair to do the same to you.
But just like I mentioned in the previous section, you can create your own prison by allowing these limits to get into your mind.
There will be people out there who will bet anything that you will fail. They will speak negativity onto you and try to break you. To those people, please do not let them. Someone broke them, so now they want others to feel their pain rather than addressing their own.
You have a dream, and that dream should be followed. I always like to think that there is a reason why you may be dreaming about your desires. If there was no reason for you to be thinking about your dream, then why is it in your mind? Ideas like that aren’t meant to just stay in the mind.
They are meant to be expressed to show your passions, your talent, or just you.
Sometimes you have to be the first
Change is scary to some people, and if you challenge their normal, they are going to react. I remember having “friends” who would laugh and make fun of me whenever I would mention passion projects of mine
They would ask me questions as if it was an interrogation. They would make faces whenever I would explain the ways that I could achieve it. They would snicker and silently laugh while looking at each other as I realized that they were just asking questions to just hear what they thought were delusional thoughts.
So, I stopped talking. I knew that to them, showing them that I was capable of doing it would make them stop. And it did. I did what they believed couldn’t be done. But I didn’t do it JUST because they believed I couldn’t.
I did it because it was something that I was TRULY passionate about and wasn’t about to let these people stop me from doing something that brought me joy. I would just be robbing myself!
Sometimes, you have to be the first to do it in order to show that the impossible can be done. You may be called weird or other names because you are doing something that is outside of THEIR comfort zone, not yours.
You need to understand that you can allow these people to get into your head and force you to retreat into what they believe is safe. Or, you can allow yourself to step out of what is safe and get to explore what makes you light up.
I want to look back when thinking about my dreams and know that I did it for me. I went with what was calling me and never looked back. Looking back will keep you in what you know, but looking forward will bring you to what you need. To be a light for others to see when theirs is gone or to bring smiles to those who lost the ability to do so.
I know it may feel scary, but your footsteps in your path can be the guide for someone else. So, don’t be afraid to be the lead.
