It’s the season of the spring and summer, good times, sunny weather, wearing sundresses, and so much more! I love the spring and summer time! My birthday is in the summer, I get to change out my clothes to accommodate for the warmer weather. I love the spring, because it’s a time that I get to observe the flowers blossom and the trees bring their evergreen leaves back to the forefront.
However, I HEAVILY dislike the fact that I have to lose one hour of sleep. Especially because I feel as if it lasts for so long, because it DOES! I didn’t even realize that daylight’s savings lasts 8 months! Please let me know if I’m the only person that just wants to have standard time.
The adjusting
Whenever daylight saving’s time comes around, I always have to make sure that I try to go to bed early. That way, if I get 7-10 hours of sleep, I’m only losing one hour. But, there have been times where I just don’t get enough sleep, it feels like I didn’t get enough sleep, or I get enough sleep and I just feel a bit off. It takes maybe a couple of days, maybe even 1 or multiple weeks, for my body to readjust.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand why people like having this time because there’s more sunlight and it feels like you have more time in the day. But that’s what I always find ironic whenever people talk about that, you technically don’t. You’ve lost an hour to have the illusion of having more time. Also, you have to change your clocks to one hour ahead. And I’m honest, I only change a few clocks like my microwave clock or my car clock. Other than that, I leave the clock alone just because of the work I have to do to change ALL of the clocks in my house.
Why do we even have it?
Now, I would like to know this. I know the history of daylight saving’s time. If you don’t know, let me give ya a quick history lesson. In 1918, the U.S. established daylight saving’s time to save energy by increasing daylight. And then guess what? It was repealed a year later and was reinstated nationally in 1966. I also think it would also help people work longer since “there’s still daylight.”
Okay, that’s great. So… why do we have it now? I mean, there are many different ways that we are able to save energy. We have solar powered items, unplugging electronics when not in use, turning off the lights when you leave the room, etc. It just doesn’t make sense why we still have daylight saving’s time installed now. Again, if you can tell me why it’s still here, then I would love to know! Whether it’s a history lesson or just fun facts.
The summer are naturally longer anyways
Have you noticed that, around the time when standard time is being reinstated, the sun starts rising later and the sun starts descending sooner? I have! It’s because the Earth has the schedule of the sun already established for us. But, for some reason, there are people who just like to make even more daylight happen at the expense of your circadian rhythm! How fun! And if you want to learn a bit more about the sunlight during different seasons, I recommend this website: https://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/rs_solstices.
But truly, you can even see that as the months go by, the sun rises early and the sun sets later in the day naturally. The Earth has all of this under cover, so why do we need to mess with it? Though daylight saving’s time isn’t my most favorite, and I mean at all, I’m still gonna make the most of it! I’m gonna allow my body to adjust and just count the days for my body to get back to its 24 hour circadian rhythm.
