We all should have a specified, full day that’s all about taking care of ourselves. For me, I like my day to be Sundays. Now, you may ask yourself, “Samantha, why does it have to be Sunday?” Well, for me, I like for Sundays to be my rest day because you get to start your week in a relaxing state of mind. Then, you can have your Maximizing Monday to get all of your shit done so you can relax for the rest of the week!
Now, what you do on your Self-Care Sunday is up to you! Of course, I’ll be here to list the many activities that you can do to give yourself preparation for the workweek. It’ll depend on your preferences and your style of relaxing, but I hope that I can list at least one activity that you can do to get yourself to relax! So, enjoy your new Self-Care Sunday!
Option 1 – do nothing
I love to do this whenever I’ve had a hectic week. It just feels nice to allow yourself to chill and not feel as if you’re running 20,000 different places at 1,000 miles per hour. I would sit in my bed for a bit, go outside on the porch and enjoy nature, and just rest to allow myself and my mind a break. Sometimes, I would watch my favorite movies or TV shows, go into some of my favorite hobbies, or just hang out with my family.
Look, if you’re busy, you understand how nice it is to have a day where you have NOTHING to do! And, if you’re like me, it may take some time for you to sit your butt down! But, once you get there, oh you’re 100 percent in. It feels amazing just feeling as if time is standing still and you can have a moment to yourself. If not a moment to yourself, a moment with your partner, friends, or family where you can just enjoy each other’s company at home.
Also, if you’re like me and you think while you’re sitting down of all of the tasks that you can do that day, which would make you ahead of schedule, slow your roll! Trust me, those tasks can be done another day. The laundry isn’t going to pick up and leave if you don’t do it right this minute. Same with the dishes, sweeping, dusting, etc. You CAN take a break AND be productive!
Option 2 – do a chore day
Now, I mentioned in the previous option that you can take a break from all of the chores and enjoy a day of doing nothing. However, you can also have a chore day as well on your Self-Care Sunday. I mean, taking care of your surroundings is also taking care of you. I mean, think about it like this. Have you ever been somewhere that had clutter everywhere and you felt as if you just couldn’t think? Well, it’s the same when it comes to YOUR space and YOUR mind.
I know when it comes to me, if my bedroom starts to get cluttered and a mess, it feels as if I cannot think straight in my own room. But once I clean it up, I feel so much better. Same goes for your kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc. And trust me, I make the best out of those days, so they don’t feel as if they’re a chore (even though they are). I play music and dance around or I watch my favorite comfort shows as I vacuum or do some laundry.
You can make a whole day of it, make it a half-day, a quarter of a day, doesn’t matter. If you can, just make sure that you’re able to enjoy yourself in one moment. And REMEMBER, you’re doing this because a clean space is also a clean mind. Also, doesn’t it feel nice to come into your house, your space, your room and your area is so clean and pristine? Doesn’t it just feel amazing?! I know it does for me!
And, let’s be honest, if you can, I would also recommend trying a maid service at least ONCE. I mean, I remember seeing my parent’s kitchen sink become the cleanest I had ever since they ordered a maid service one time. We were so impressed that they were able to get scratches that we thought were just a part of the sink. So, give your space some love and get yourself a clean space that you can appreciate. You can come home from work and know that there’s one less thing that you have to do.
Option 3 – give yourself a spa day… at home or at the spa
Having a spa day at the house, for me, is the way to go. I have all of the tools that I need, so it’s pretty easy for me to give myself a five-star spa experience. I have the face masks ready, the fancy drinks and snacks to serve, a massage chair, I have the works! So, if you’re a homebody like me, then having a day at the spa home edition is amazing. I get to stay in my pajamas, watch my favorite shows, AND get beautified in the process? 10 out of 10, I am going to be doing this again and again.
However, I do know that there are some people who enjoy being able to get out of the house and give themselves a treat. Because, I know that there are people who work at home or are stay at home parents, and trust me, EVERYONE likes to get out of the house every once in a while. Just to see some new sights, enjoy talking to others, and to just get a change of scenery. There isn’t anything wrong with that either. I know that my sister likes to go to the spa whenever she wants to have some wind down time and spoil herself.
It’s all up to you and what you’re feeling. If you’re feeling an at home 5 star spa experience, then go for it! Take yourself to Ulta, Lush, Sephora, Walmart, or Target to get your favorite skincare treats. If you want to just pay and do nothing else, then you can go to a spa near you, or your favorite spa and spoil yourself rotten. And while you’re at it, get that massage! Make sure that they get all of the tense spots so you can come out of there and feel relaxed!
