I’ve only started dry brushing for, maybe, about a month. But boy I tell you! Dry brushing has been sooo beneficial to my skin! And I know I’m not the first person to jump on the dry brushing train, but I’m advising you to come along with me! If you don’t join me on the dry brushing train, then you can AT LEAST hear out my case about the AMAZING benefits of dry brushing your body!
What is dry brushing?
That’s an excellent question! Dry brushing is when you use a dry, bristled brush that helps you massage the body. Then, given the name, you do this to your body on DRY skin. Personally, I like to do it before I take a shower so I can wash off the dead skin that I’m brushing off of my skin’s top layer.
With dry brushing, and the internet, there are said to be many benefits when it comes to dry brushing. I’m going to tell you the benefits that I have seen PERSONALLY. And even though I haven’t been doing it as long, I truly have seen such amazing benefits already. So, let’s get into all of the wonderful benefits that dry brushing has brought me!
Benefit 1 – exfoliating zee skin
Since we are brushing our body, I have seen it to be EXCELLENT for exfoliating my skin. When it comes to dry brushing, it’s said to unclog your pores. And, by unclogging your pores, your body can get rid of toxins much easier! And, who wouldn’t want their body to get rid of the bad stuff? Now, I can’t say that I’ve seen my body get rid of toxins easier, but I do see a difference in my skin.
This is really nice because I have noticed that my skin feels so much smoother than before! Not only does it make my skin feel softer, but it also makes my skin feel softer too! I mean, who doesn’t want to feel soft and smooth?! I know I wouldn’t hear any objections to that! And I want to preface this: I would recommend moisturizing the skin after you get out of the shower. I moisturize by putting on body oil AND body lotion afterwards. I have sensitive skin as well and I haven’t had any issues.
So, if you want to help your skin feel smoother and much softer, I would recommend doing this. HOWEVER, I would be careful after applying a bunch of pressure on your body. It doesn’t take too much pressure to exfoliate your skin, so make sure to apply a small amount of pressure. Let the dry brush do the work rather than the pressure of your hand do the work!
But when it comes to shaving my legs, this has been really beneficial. I mean, we all know how amazing it feels to go into your bed sheets and feel your shaven, smooth legs under the sheets. This is especially amazing if you have silk sheets! That feeling has to be at least top 10 best feelings to have. For me, personally, I still use a body scrub and an African exfoliating net sponge as extra exfoliators. But, I still think that dry brushing before going into the shower is still really beneficial FOR ME!
Benefit 2 – increasing blood circulation and lymphatic drainage
When it comes to dry brushing, it’s also said that it increases the blood circulation while promoting lymphatic drainage. Now, you may be wondering why blood circulation and lymphatic drainage would be such amazing benefits. Well, let me tell you the science of it! And if you don’t want to hear the science of it, then you can skip the next paragraph. Though, in my opinion, I think you should hear me out!
When it comes to your body, it needs oxygen. I know… crazy. So, when you increase the blood circulation to your body, this helps the delivery of oxygen and nutrients throughout your body to your cells. If you ever have a wound that needs to heal, having an increased blood flow will help the wound heal faster! How? Well, more blood goes to the tissues that are working on healing that area. And guess what? Increased blood circulation also helps waste get removed a bit faster!
And that helps with lymphatic drainage, which helps remove toxins and waste from the body. Now, with lymphatic drainage, this helps your immune system. Increased lymphatic drainage can help boost your immune system. It can also improve the health of your skin, reduce inflammation, etc. Essentially, you can’t go wrong when it comes to improving your circulation and lymphatic drainage. Your body WILL thank you!
Benefit 3 – stimulates the nervous system
Another benefit that dry brushing has is that it stimulates the nervous system, which is the one benefit that I don’t have a detailed reasoning as to why it’s very beneficial. However, I do know that it’s said to improve your mental health by reducing anxiety and stress as well as enhancing your mood. This, for sure, is a benefit that many people would reap the benefits of. For this one, I haven’t been taking observations of my nervous system, but I do feel good when dry brushing.
It feels as if I’m giving myself a nice massage, and everyone deserves to have a nice massage. So, just think that you’re giving yourself a nice massage every single time you dry brush yourself. For me, I like to dry brush 3-4 times a week, and it takes about 10 minutes to do. For me, I like to be thorough, but some people take 5 minutes. On the other hand, there are people who take even longer than I do and take 20+ minutes. So, however long you want to brush yourself is all up to you and how much dead skin you have.
Get your dry brushing on
When it comes to dry brushing, I would recommend that you try it 1-2 times a week and see how much of a difference it makes. I would also recommend that you dry one method at a time. That way, you can say that any results are from the dry brush and dry brush ONLY. If you really like the benefits that you’re seeing with the dry brush, then you can increase the frequency of dry brushing sessions that you do.
I would slowly increase the dry brushing sessions just so you can figure out your cap when it comes to dry brushing. I mean, we don’t want the skin to be bone dry. So, I hope that I have convinced you that dry brushing is the way to go! And if not, then you’ve learned something new! Let me know the benefits that YOU’VE seen after dry brushing.
